Rochan Mentite
The Rochan Mentite started out as a path followed by travelers searching for the mythical city of Pandora. Heading south from the main dwarven cities it was thought to be the only way to possibly find your way to the reclusive elves. Then centuries ago a moment of need united the unlikeliest of allies. After years of war amongst themselves humans in the west organized an army to take the lands of the dwarves and elves and resettle it for humans in a campaign referred to as the Eastern Incursion. Having been driven out of their homelands to the west due to war and famine the humans felt this was their only chance of survival but knew they wouldnt be welcomed by the elves or dwarves as they refused their many pleas.
Taking the elves by surprise they quickly took their capital of Pandora in Priroda, and in an act of desperation an elf made a two week ride in just two days between the dwarven and elven capitals to attempt to raise the dwarven army. The dwarves did come to the aid of the elves to swing the tide of the war. In the battle for Moria the Elves saved thousdands of lives and though they were unable to save the former capital they helped the dwarves repel the humans as well. The Pantair Army eventually won the war pushing the humans back into the marshes of Hutudi.
The route taken by the rider has been crowned the Rochan Mentite, one of the best kept and well defended roads in all of Ristteel. Both kingdoms also celebrate Unification Day to mark the occasion. A few of the many small tokens of a tenuous peace and respect among the still allied elves and dwarves.
Riding Hard
In a show of the unity between the nations the Rochan Mentite maintains stops every 10 miles along the route. This distance allows a rider to get a fresh mount every 10 miles to allow them to ride as hard as possible along the route. The governments take turns riding along the route each month to make sure the stops are paid for any official riders that used the service and that each stop on the route is well funded and stocked. The stops could be as simple as a family ranch or as intricate as a large keep with a military garrison.
Well Patrolled
This sort of luxury obviously invites criminals and less savory types to attack those that think they are safe on the road. As such both militaries regularly patrol the route between Altair and Pandora hoping to deter those with bad intentions. Such a high level of security is necessary as it is traveled by many nobles, merchants and heads of state being the only known road to the once reclusive elven capital.
