Ironwind Pass
The Belegost side or the western most part of The Starshard Traverse. This path starts off as a beautiful mountain climbing into the lower reaches of the Ursa Mountains. Named for the relentless, icy winds that howl down from the peaks, this section is a rugged ascent through rocky terrain, carved by dwarven hands centuries ago. The path is wider and more stable here than in the other sections, reflecting Belegost’s engineering, but the winds and early hazards set the tone for the journey.
Geography and Features:
- Length: About 15 miles, taking 1 day to traverse.
- Terrain: A steep, winding trail of packed stone and gravel, flanked by rocky outcrops. The path is wide enough for a small cart but littered with loose rocks from recent tremors.
- Weather: The “ironwind” is a constant, bone-chilling gale that can knock travelers off balance. Sudden snow squalls reduce visibility.
- Dwarven Markings: Ancient dwarven runes are etched into boulders along the path, offering warnings about avalanches and marking safe resting spots.
Dangers:
- Wind Gusts: The ironwind can extinguish torches or campfires, making it hard to rest.
- Rockslides: Minor tremors in the Ursa Mountains can dislodge boulders.
- Goblin Raiders: A small band of goblins from the mountains preys on travelers, using the wind to mask their approach. They set crude traps like tripwires or rolling logs.
